A celebration turned into tragedy when gunfire erupted at the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory parade on Wednesday. The shooting left one person dead and at least 21 others injured, including children. Amidst the chaos, videos circulating on social media showed how brave fans tackled and restrained a man suspected of being involved in the shooting.

The footage, which has since gone viral, shows bystanders chasing and successfully subduing the suspect. Paul Contreras, one of the individuals who claimed to have tackled the gunman, recounted the intense moment to CNN.

Contreras detailed how he knocked the weapon from the suspect’s hands and, with the help of another attendee, pinned the man to the ground until police arrived.

“He was fighting the whole time,” Contreras said of the gunman. “And we were fighting him to keep him down.”

The Kansas City Police have detained three people in connection with the shooting, which took place west of Union Station amidst a crowd of approximately one million fans gathered to celebrate the Chiefs’ Super Bowl win. The shots prompted attendees, including Kansas City’s mayor and his family, to flee for cover.

Following the shooting, US President Joe Biden issued a call to action, urging Congress and the nation to implement stricter gun control measures. In a statement, Biden called for a ban on assault weapons, limitations on high-capacity magazines, and stronger background checks.

“Today’s events should move us, shock us, shame us into acting. What are we waiting for? What else do we need to see? How many more families need to be torn apart?” said Biden.
