Rohit Sharma is among the most composed captains in world cricket. He took over the duty to lead the Indian men’s cricket team from Virat Kohli in 2022. Such smooth was Rohit’s captaincy that the shift in leadership was never felt. Under him, India made it to the finals of the World Test Championship and the Cricket World Cup last year. Former India cricketer Praveen Kumar has heaped praised on the captaincy style of Rohit, saying that the player is “yaaro ka yaar (friend of friends).

“Rohit is a fantastic skipper. He is leading the side really well. Sourav Ganguly was the one who built the team. He created the team with a mix of youngsters and experienced players. Rohit is ‘yaaro ka yaar’ (friend of friends). He scolds the players when they make mistakes and hugs them too. He guides them and gives them all liberty on the field,” Praveen told Times of India.

Former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly recently opened up on his decision to replace Kohli with Rohit as the captain of the Indian men’s cricket team.

During the appointment, Ganguly was the BCCI chief and there were reports of a possible rift between him and Kohli. Ganguly had earlier revealed that the BCCI had asked Kohli to reconsider his decision to step down as T20I captain.

On the decision to replace Kohli, former India captain Ganguly said that he saw huge potential in Rohit, considering his record in the Indian Premier League.

Ganguly suggested that India were the best team in the tournament and added that he was not surprised by the way Rohit led India during the Cricket World Cup 2023.

While Rohit continues to lead the Indian team, his role in the Mumbai Indians team has been changed. The five-time Indian Premier League champions have named Hardik Pandya as their captain for the upcoming IPL season.
