A man from Pakistan was schooled after he forcibly tried to cover the head of a woman interviewer on camera with his shawl. However, the woman promptly removes the shawl and defends herself. An undated video of the incident has gone viral on social media.

The video shows the man telling the women interviewer that she was in an Islamic nation and her head should be covered. He then goes on to cover the woman’s head with his shawl without taking her permission.

The woman, visibly agitated and taken aback by the sudden act, is seen removing the shawl and schooling the man. The woman’s sharp and poignant reply has won the hearts of several users on social media.

In Pakistan, hijab is not mandated by law. The woman accuses the man of touching her without permission, calling it a “big crime”.

“Tumhaare Islam dupatte pe shuru hota hai aur dupatte pe khatam hota hai (Your Islam starts with a veil and ends with it). Is this what Islam teaches you? To touch a woman without permission. This is social harassment,” the woman is heard saying.

She then goes on to tell the man that he could be arrested due to it and immediately gives the head cover back to him. Some passers by are also seen defending the woman, saying wearing a head cover was her personal choice.

The video garnered an avalanche of reactions, with people praising the woman for fighting back. “As long as this man’s attitude is widespread in Pakistan, it’s going to stay down and out,” a user commented. Another said, “Nobody has the authority to put dupatta on any female. It is completely her choice to wear it or not.”

Another user on X said the world needs to be free of religious fundamentalism. “This is the reason Pakistan will remain Pakistan,” he said.
