The White House on Tuesday (local time) reacted to the controversy surrounding Princess of Wales Kate Middleton’s edited family photo and said it did not digitally alter the pictures of the president and the vice-president before releasing them publicly.

During a briefing, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked by a reporter whether the White House digitally altered the photos of the president, vice president, first lady or second gentleman before being released into the public domain.

“Digitally altered? Not that I know of. I would say no,” Jean-Pierre said as other reporters laughed at the unexpected question.

“Why would we digitally alter the photos? Are you comparing us to what’s going on in the UK?” she said as soft laughs continued.

When the reporter responded that he was doing his “due diligence” as a reporter, the White House official, chuckled and said, “Why does the monarch have to do anything with us? No, that is not something that we do here.”

This is a developing story. It will be updated.
