US President Joe Biden on Thursday was caught visibly angry while denying claims by special counsel Robert Hur that his memory is “poor” and “faulty”. During a White House event, a video showed him saying to a reporter, “I’m well-meaning, and I’m an elderly man, and I know what the hell I’m doing”.

The claims by Robert Hur pertained to the case of Biden taking classified documents with him when he left the vice presidency in 2017. Adding that his memory is “fine”, the US President said, “I’ve been the President, I put this country back on its feet. I don’t need his recommendation”.

As additional questions about his old age and memory were asked, Joe Biden became even more rattled, telling off the reporter. “My memory is so bad, I let you speak”.

“My memory is not bad, my memory is fine. Take a look at what I’ve done since becoming the President. None of you thought I could pass any of the things, (but) I got passed. How did that happen?” the US President asked.

He then took a jibe at the special counsel, saying “I guess, I forgot what was going on”.

However, immediately after, Joe Biden goofed up while mentioning Egyptian President Abd el-Fattah Saeed Hussein Khalil El-Sisi and called him the “President of Mexico”. The US President made this mistake while talking about convincing El-Sisi to open the gates of Rafah Border Crossing at the border of the Gaza Strip to allow the passage of humanitarian aid into the besieged Palestinian enclave. Biden said, “I talked to El-Sisi, I talked to Bibi (referring to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu) to open the gates on Israel’s side.”

The special counsel said he opted against bringing criminal charges against Biden, following a 15-month investigation into the classified documents’ case, because the US President cooperated, and it would be difficult to convict him, describing him as a “well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory”.

Special counsel Robert Hur also claimed in his report that Joe Biden had forgotten crucial dates such as when his son died. The US President’s son, Beau Biden, died of brain cancer in 2015 at the age of 46.
