The US killed a commander from Kataib Hezbollah, an Iran-backed armed group in Iraq, in a drone strike in Baghdad. The Kataib Hezbollah was blamed by Washington for carrying out attacks on its troops.

“(US) forces conducted a unilateral strike in Iraq in response to the attacks on US service members, killing a Kataib Hezbollah commander responsible for directly planning and participating in attacks on US forces in the region,” news agency Reuters quoted a military statement as saying. The statement did not name the commander.

Two security sources told Reuters that the commander was Abu Baqir al-Saadi killed in a drone strike on a vehicle in eastern Baghdad.
