Donald Trump lauds Vivek Ramaswamy after he drops out of Republican presidential race, says he did ‘hell of a job’

Former US President Donald Trump praised fellow Republican Vivek Ramaswamy after the latter dropped out of the Republican presidential race, saying he did a “hell of a job”.

Trump won all the caucuses in Iowa and emerged as the Republican Party frontrunner to challenge Democrat Joe Biden in the November election.

In his victory speech, Trump also mentioned Vivek Ramaswamy, lauding him for coming from virtually zero recognition and doing a “hell of a job”.

“I also want to congratulate Vivek, because he did a hell of a job,” Trump said in his victory speech.

The shift in Trump’s tone towards Ramaswamy was significant as it was only days ago that the former President had called him a “fraud”.

Vivek Ramaswamy, a multi-millionaire former biotech executive, ended his White House bid after partial results from the Iowa caucus showed him in fourth place with around 7.7 per cent of votes. He also endorsed Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, saying he was an “America-first” candidate who would have his full support.

In the lead up to the Iowa caucus, Ramaswamy spoke highly of Trump, reiterating that he was the “best President of the 21st century”.

However, Trump turned on Ramaswamy in the final days leading up to the Iowa caucus, calling him a “fraud” over his campaign’s ‘Save Trump, Vote Vivek’ bid.

“Very sly, but a vote for Vivek is a vote for the ‘other side’ — don’t get duped by this. Vote for ‘TRUMP, don’t waste your vote! Vivek is not MAGA,” Trump said just days ahead of the Iowa caucus.
