Iran fired a barrage of cruise and ballistic missiles and sent in drones to attack Israel. Israel, helped by the US, Jordan and Saudi Arabia, shot down 99% of the projectiles.

The only person to be severely injured in the attack was a seven-year-old Arab Bedouin girl.

The Bedouin girl was hit by an Iranian shrapnel from a ballistic missile that hit her family home at Arad in Israel’s Negev Desert.

“There was, unfortunately, one casualty, a seven-year-old child, who was hit by shrapnel from, probably from one of the interceptors. We don’t know exactly. Unfortunately, she was wounded, and she’s treated, but in severe condition still,” Israeli Ambassador to India, Naor Gilon said.

The seven-year-old girl was hit on her head, making her the only casualty of the Iranian attack. She underwent surgery at the nearby Soroka Medical Center, but remains to be in a critical state.

The location of the incident was near the Israeli Nevatim Airbase, which was also struck by multiple Iranian missiles.

“Iran is the financer, trainer and equipper of Hamas, Hezbollah in Lebanonâ€æin Iraq and Syria, the Houthis in Yemen, all of them are fighting with us. And what happened yesterday is that Iran turned it from a war by proxy to a direct attack on Israel,” Ambassador Naor Gilon added.

The Israeli Defence Forces and the Israeli Air Force were able to shoot down 99% of the missiles fired at Israel.

Iran fired around 170 drones, 30 cruise missiles and around 120 ballistic missiles at Israel following the alleged Israeli attack on the Iranian Counsulate in the Syrian capital Beirut.

The Iranian attack is seen as a retaliation for the alleged Israeli attack on the Iranian Consulate that killed a top Iranian general and six other military officers.

The Bedouin are a group of nomadic Arab tribes that have historically lived in the deserts of the Arabian Peninsula, North Africa, the Levant in Israel.

As a matter of fact, Israel houses around 2.1 million Arab-Muslim population, making 21% of the Arabian population the Jewish state.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) also inducts Arabs and has seen an increase in the number from 606 in 2020, to 489 in 2019.
