Hollywood legend Robert De Niro on Tuesday had a face-off with Donald Trump supporters after calling the former president a ‘clown’ who wants to ‘destroy the world’, outside his hush money trial in New York.

It happened while Capitol Police officers Harry Dunn and Michael Fanone were accompanying De Niro as special guests of incumbent Joe Biden’s campaign.

While addressing the news conference outside Trump’s hush money trial, De Niro said “I love this city. I don’t want to destroy it. Donald Trump wants to destroy not only the city but the country and, eventually, he could destroy the world”.

This seemed to not have gone down well with Trump’s supporters present there as a group of people were heard chanting in the background , ‘f*** Joe Biden,’ with another yelling at the actor, “your movies suck!”

However, that did not deter De Niro from further criticising Trump. “We New Yorkers used to tolerate him when he was just another grubby real estate hustler masquerading as a big shot. A two-bit playboy lying his way into the tabloids. A clown”, De Niro said about Trump.

“But this city is pretty accommodating. We make room for clowns”, the actor’s tirade continued. “But not a person like Trump, who will eventually run a country that does not work, and we all know that”, he said.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump’s spokesperson Jason Miller hit back at the actor and slammed Biden’s campaign, bringing De Niro out, telling reporters afterward “The best they can do is roll out a washed up actor”.

Agitated by De Niro’s salvo at Trump, one of the former US president’s supporters echoed Miller and said to the actor “You’re washed up”.

“You are gangsters. F*** you”, De Niro retorted.

Earlier, the ‘Raging Bull’ actor went on to point out that Trump’s voters ‘bought into his bulls***’, saying that Trump bought their votes with ‘outrageous lies’ and ’empty promises’.

De Niro said that Trump getting an angry mob to assault the US capitol on January 6, 2021 motivated him to do the voiceover in a new Biden-Harris poll campaign advertisement.

De Niro also claimed that Trump could use the US military to quell future protests against him.

“That’s the tyrant he’s telling us he’ll be”, De Niro warned.

The actor also said that ‘elections’ in the US would be history if Trump got another term at the helm.

“I can tell you right now. He will never leave. He will never leave. You know that. He will never leave”, De Niro said.

Further pushing for Joe Biden’s re-election, De Niro said “The only way to preserve our freedoms and hold onto our humanity is to vote for Joe Biden for president”.

“Really! We don’t have a choice”, De Niro warned.
