Amid improving ties, Pakistan is likely to receive the AIM-120 advanced medium-range air-to-air missile from the United States. Pakistan has been lobbying for an upgrade to its F-16 fleet, which currently uses the AIM-120C5 missile. The potential deal follows a visit by Pakistan’s Air Chief Marshal Ahmed Zahir Babar Sidhu to the US in July. Reports indicate the manufacturer, Raytheon, has a contract modification approved by the US administration that includes Pakistan. While the order awaits final government approval, one speaker noted, “this is going to change the dynamics of South Asian military and armament components.” India has previously lodged formal complaints regarding major military supplies to Pakistan, citing that such hardware has been used against it.
