Actor Meher Afroz Shaon has been arrested in Dhaka on charges of conspiring against the state, according to local media reports citing officials on Friday.
“She was taken into custody in Dhanmondi on Thursday night,” confirmed Additional Police Commissioner Rezaul Karim Mallik of the Detective Branch to the Dhaka Tribune.
Police stated that Shaon has been charged with sedition and is currently being questioned. Reports suggest that she had been openly critical of Bangladesh’s interim government, led by Muhammad Yunus.
