Tesla CEO Elon Musk launched a sharp attack on American investor and billionaire philanthropist George Soros, accusing him of harbouring “hatred” for Israel. Musk cited reports claiming that Soros funds NGOs allegedly linked to the Palestinian militant group Hamas. Musk said, “George Soros’s hatred of humanity includes Israel”.

Musk’s remarks referenced a statement by Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, who accused Soros of funnelling over $15 million into a network of non-governmental organisations allegedly supporting Hamas amid its ongoing conflict with Israel.

“George Soros’ donations to organisations that seek the destruction of the State of Israel as a Jewish state are shameful. However, I am not surprised,” Israeli ambassador Gilad Erdan told Fox News in December last year.

Musk’s latest criticism comes days after he condemned U.S. President Joe Biden’s decision to award Soros the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honour. Musk labelled the recognition a “travesty”.

He tweeted, “A travesty that Biden is giving Soros the Medal of Freedom”.

The Tesla CEO accused Soros, a Hungarian-born Jewish financier and philanthropist, of wielding a detrimental influence on global politics. In a podcast, Musk claimed that Soros “fundamentally hates humanity” and is actively working to erode the fabric of civilisation.

In another tweet, Musk likened Soros to several fictional villains, including Magneto from the Marvel Universe and Emperor Palpatine from Star Wars. He also shared an AI-generated image depicting US President Joe Biden awarding a medal to Emperor Palpatine, amplifying his criticism of both Soros and Biden.

Soros has recently made headlines in India as well. The BJP alleged that organisations linked to Sonia Gandhi have received funding from the billionaire and have taken anti-India stances on several issues, including Kashmir. The Congress party has strongly denied these allegations.

His name has also surfaced in controversies involving the Adani Group, with allegations that Soros-funded organisations were behind the Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP). The OCCRP accused the Adani Group of using opaque Mauritius-based funds to channel investments into its companies.
