Poornima Balaji, the mother of former OpenAI engineer Suchir Balaji, has raised doubts about the circumstances surrounding her son’s death, alleging that it was not a suicide as initially reported.
Poornima turned to ChatGPT, an AI language model, to analyse the bloodstain patterns at the scene, which she claims suggested inconsistencies with a suicide. Convinced by the analysis, she hired a private investigator to look deeper into the case.
The investigator concluded that the evidence pointed toward homicide, not suicide. This finding fuelled Poornima’s suspicions of foul play.
She accused the AI industry in California of orchestrating her son’s murder, suggesting it was linked to his alleged revelations about the shortcomings of large language models (LLMs) and ethical concerns within the AI field.
“This is not just about my son,” Poornima said. “This is about a powerful industry silencing voices that expose its flaws.”
Authorities have yet to comment on the allegations or the investigator’s findings. The case remains under scrutiny as Poornima calls for justice.
