Mysterious drone sightings spook Americans, sparks new theory

A series of unexplained drone sightings over New Jersey and other parts of the East Coast in recent weeks have sparked widespread concern and confusion. Questions about who is operating the drones and their purpose remain unanswered, leaving many Americans uneasy.

The mysterious drone sightings, which began on November 18 in New Jersey according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), have been reported every night since then.

Drones have been observed flying over residential neighbourhoods, restricted areas, and critical infrastructure across at least six states — New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Virginia, CNN reported.

While federal authorities, including the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), maintain there is “no evidence at this time” that the drones pose a threat to national security or public safety, their presence continues to alarm residents.

The White House National Security Council also echoed this sentiment, stating the drones are not a public safety risk.

Despite these reassurances, theories about the drones’ purpose have gained traction.

GENUINE CONCERN, SAYS JOE ROGAN ON DRONE SIGHTINGS

John Ferguson, CEO of a remote aircraft systems company in Kansas, offered an explanation.

Based on his expertise, Ferguson suggested the drones might be conducting night-time searches for specific substances on the ground, such as gas leaks or radioactive material.

“The only reason you would ever fly an unmanned aircraft at night is if you’re looking for something,” he said in a TikTok clip, according to the New York Post.

Ferguson’s theory resonated widely, even drawing attention from Joe Rogan, the popular host of The Joe Rogan Experience podcast.

Rogan, who frequently discusses topics like aliens and other related topics, expressed his “genuine concern” over the drone sightings and questioned the federal government’s assurances.

“This is the first video about these drones that has got me genuinely concerned,” he wrote on X on Sunday.

Referring to the White House’s dismissal of the drones as harmless, Rogan described the claim as “sus”, according to the New York Post.

POLITICAL PRESSURE AFTER FREQUENT DRONE SIGHTINGS OVER US EAST COAST

The sightings have also led to political pressure.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has written to President Joe Biden, demanding clarity on the situation.

With only weeks left in Biden’s term before President-elect Donald Trump will be sworn in as the 47th President of the United States, the mystery adds an unusual layer to the administration’s final days.

Trump alleged that the US government was aware of drones flying over New Jersey and the East Coast but was withholding information about them.

He further added that if the government truly didn’t know what the drones were, they should have been shot down.

The FBI and the DHS have urged the public to assist by sharing videos, photos, and any other relevant information about the drones.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas sought to reassure Americans during an appearance on ABC’s ‘This Week’, stating, “I want to assure the American public that we are on it.”

For now, the unexplained drones continue to spook Americans, leaving many to wonder whether they are witnessing advanced surveillance technology, industrial activity, or something far more mysterious.
