A UK man has been jailed for life after being convicted for a horrific 2021 rape case of a health worker, whom he sexually assaulted “again and again” until she passed away.
According to a report in UK-based Mirror, Mohamed Iidow repeatedly raped Natalie Shotter, 37, while she was passed out on a bench in a park in West London following a night out.
Lawyers claimed that Shotter died after suffering a heart attack from the repeated assault.
Iidow has been sentenced for charges of rape and manslaughter, with the judge noting that he took advantage of the victim who was in a “highly vulnerable state”.
The judge described the gruesome act as “wicked and utterly reckless.”
Shotter, a mother of two, was seen sitting on a bench in a CCTV footage recovered from the park. She was with a different man when the convict was seen walking past her. He drove away in his car but returned later when Shotter was “lying down, showing no clear movement”.
According to the lawyers, Iidow approached the unconscious victim casually and moved her body around in different positions as he proceeded to rape her. He later drove back to his house in West London, and even purchased cat food and mouthwash.
The victim’s dead body was discovered by a passer-by in the park the following day.
According to the report, jurors were told that Shotter was just over 5ft tall and weighed a little more than six and a half stone (43kg).
The prosecutor said that the victim had been drinking and may have also inhaled amyl nitrate, commonly known as poppers. However, she clarified that while the legal high did not cause Shotter’s death, it likely contributed to her vulnerability.
“The prosecution’s case is that consuming these substances made Natalie even more vulnerable. It didn’t cause her death, but it may help explain how she ended up on that bench alone in the park in the middle of the night, lying on her side and vulnerable to men in that park,” she said.
CCTV shown in court showed Shotter walking through the streets and talking on her phone before stopping to dance outside a shop, joined by a man and two women.
The prosecutor said that Shotter did not appear overly intoxicated and seemed “happy.” Jurors were also shown additional footage of Iidow assaulting her in the park.
While pronouncing the order, the judge told Iidow that he was being given a life term since he poses a danger to women and girls.
