Syrian rebels have made a significant breakthrough in the suburbs of Homs, a critical city in the ongoing conflict, according to news agency Reuters. This comes after a rapid week-long advance as Syrian government forces struggle to maintain control and preserve President Bashar al-Assad’s 24-year rule.

Meanwhile, the office of Assad has denied reports of him fleeing the country, calling it “rumours and false news”, and said that the Srian President is continuing to perform his duties from Damascus, according to the BBC.
