Donald Trump lauds high-IQ Elon Musk in first speech after winning US presidential polls

US President-elect Donald Trump delivered his first public speech since winning the landslide 2024 election. He addressed the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) Gala at Mar-a-Lago in Florida. Here, Trump celebrated his victory, praised his allies, and introduced key Cabinet members and senior administration officials. He also praised the high IQ of Tesla boss Elon Musk, who played a key role in victory.

Trump called the 2024 election the “most consequential”. He highlighted the popular support for him and his vision for the US.

This was an election where Trump secured 312 electoral votes, while Kamala Harris received 226.

He swept all the battleground states that had flipped in the 2020 election, which helped Joe Biden win that year.

“They would say, ‘he didn’t win the popular vote’. And we won the popular vote by record now, so nobody can say that any more about us,” Trump said, reported ABC News.

Among those attending the gala were several newly announced picks for his Cabinet, including Elon Musk, Vivek Ramaswamy, Robert F Kennedy Jr, and North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum.

“We have a man who has a seriously high IQ. His is about as high as they get,” said Trump.

Musk, the world’s richest man, along with Ramaswamy, an Indian-American biotech entrepreneur, will lead the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).

Trump expressed confidence in their partnership.

“They’re going to be saving a lot of money and making our country stronger and better. You put those two together, it’s going to be really great,” he said.

Robert F Kennedy Jr, who claimed the Covid-19 vaccine was linked to autism, was nominated for Secretary of Health and Human Services.

“He wants to make people healthy. It’s driven him pretty wild over the last number of years,” Trump said. Offering light caution, he joked, “Don’t get too popular, Bobby,” reported ABC News.

Doug Burgum, slated to be Secretary of the Department of the Interior, received a brief mention during Trump’s remarks, with the formal announcement expected soon.

Trump also hinted at upcoming decisions regarding the Secretary of Energy.

Trump celebrated the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) work in shaping his policy agenda for the second term.

“I really want to congratulate Linda [McMahon] and Brooke [Rollins] for the job you’ve done. It’s an honour to be here,” he said.

The event marked a transition from campaign mode to planning for his next administration, with a ballroom filled with Trump’s allies, including Donald Trump Jr, Kimberly Guilfoyle, Kellyanne Conway, Tulsi Gabbard — an ex-Democrat chosen by Trump as Director of National Intelligence — and House Speaker Mike Johnson.

“Rocky” actor Sylvester Stallone introduced Trump, drawing comparisons between the president-elect, his famous movie character, and George Washington.

Interestingly, Vice President Kamala Harris, held her last campaign rally on Philadelphia’s famous “Rocky steps” just before the election.

The US presidential election took place on November 5, and Donald Trump emerged victorious. He is set to take the oath as the 47th President of the United States on January 20, 2025.

Speakers before Trump included AFPI President Brooke Rollins, board chair Linda McMahon, and Argentine President Javier Milei.

Musk also delivered brief remarks after Trump, reinforcing his commitment to reducing federal bureaucracy, saying, “We’re going to get it done.”
