A phone call between Indonesia’s newly elected President Prabowo Subianto and US President-elect Donald Trump has drawn significant online attention for the warm exchange, during which both leaders showered each other with praise. They congratulated each other on their electoral victories and “incredible” achievements, while also expressing a desire to visit each other’s countries.

Subianto shared a video of the call on Monday night, and it has already garnered over 2.2 million views at the time of publishing this report.

The Indonesian President, who was in Washington for an official visit, told Trump that he would like to “call on” him personally. “If possible, I would like to call on you personally. Wherever you are, I’m willing to fly to congratulate you in person, sir,” he said.

The Republican leader responded, “That’s so nice. We’ll do that anytime you want”.

As the call progressed, Subianto expressed his admiration for Trump’s leadership and achievements. Trump, in turn, congratulated the Indonesian President on his recent victory and praised his vision for the country.

When Trump remarked, “Your English is so good,” Subianto replied, “Yes, sir. All my training is American,” to which the US President-elect responded, “Ah, that’s great. I can see”.

The 73-year-old Indonesian President also mentioned that he was shocked over the assassination attempt on Trump.

“We were all shocked when they tried to assassinate you. But we are very happy that the Almighty protected you, sir,” he said.

Trump replied, “Yes, I got very lucky. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be talking to you right now. I got quite lucky, actually”.

Reflecting on the outcome of the US election, Trump told Prabowo, “We had a great election in the US. It’s amazing what happened. We had tremendous success. The most successful in over a hundred years, they say”.

Trump added that Prabowo was doing an “amazing” job leading Indonesia and expressed his interest in visiting the Southeast Asian nation “sometime”.

“Whenever you’re around, let me also visit your country sometime. It’s incredible, the job you’re doing. It’s incredible,” the nearly three-minute phone conversation continued.

This marked Prabowo’s first foreign trip since being sworn into office in late October. He is expected to meet outgoing US President Joe Biden on Wednesday to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation, according to a White House statement.
