With less than seven days to the US presidential election, Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris, 60, has a slight lead over her rival Republican nominee Donald Trump, 78 in another national poll, as both candidates campaigns to win over the American voters in battleground states.
The Morning Consult poll, released Tuesday, surveyed 8,807 likely voters from October 25-27 and found Harris with 50% support, compared to Trump’s 47%, with a margin of error of one percentage point.
The survey shows the contest is highly competitive and that the two campaigns are fighting for crucial swing states. Trump is scheduled to address a rally in Allentown, Pennsylvania, one of the most critical battleground states, whereas Harris is scheduled to deliver a speech at an event in Washington, DC, trying to preserve her lead.
Harris’s lead has narrowed a bit since she was ahead by four points in a similar poll last week. Still, the closer numbers are that Harris is maintaining a “positive buzz advantage” throughout her campaign — 45% of voters recently heard positive news about her, while 49% said they recently heard something negative about Trump.
The poll also highlights key issues where each party holds more voter trust. Republicans lead in areas like the economy, national security, crime, and immigration, while Democrats are seen as more reliable on healthcare, climate change, and abortion rights.
With both candidates ramping up their campaigns in the final days, the close numbers reflect a highly competitive race that could be influenced by late-breaking news and voter turnout in critical swing states.
The US presidential election is set on November 5.
