Former President Barack Obama delivered a blistering attack against Donald Trump on Monday while speaking to voters in Philadelphia to urge Pennsylvanians to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris. The speech by Obama at the Liacouras Center was part of a final push to mobilise voters on the penultimate day of early voting. “Do not dilly or dally… get out there,” Obama urged.
Obama centred his campaign against Donald Trump policies, the “Muslim ban”, and comments he accused him of making about dying American soldiers, reported NBC News.
He attacked a recent rally that Trump hosted in which comedian Kill Tony appeared. Kill Tony has since made derogatory comments about Puerto Rico, among other insults.
“I have seen this, particularly from some men who appear to believe Trump’s behaviour somehow demonstrates strength,” Obama observed. “Real strength lies in hard work, in responsibility, in telling the truth, and in how you treat everyone with dignity and respect.”
Obama joked, and said that “Trump was selling ‘Trump Bibles’ made in China-He wants you to follow the Word of God, Donald Trump edition.
As if his name’s the next to the guys.” He said to know that Trump could remove the top off a ’41 Mercury or change a tyre with a vintage truck; this he said mockingly by raising an eyebrow at one place, “Do you ever think Donald Trump ever got a flat tyre and took it off his car?”
The rally featured appearances from Bruce Springsteen and John Legend, who have both been vocal critics of Trump. Springsteen called Trump “an American tyrant”, while Legend claimed that “freedom is at stake in this election”.
Obama was sharing personal stories about the time he spent without a father and the values acquired from his mother.
“I did have people around me; my stepfather, grandparents, teachers, coaches, and most of all, my mom who taught me the difference between right and wrong.”
Obama received many claps of support from the crowd and occasionally jeers at mention of Trump’s name. “Nobody can hear your boos, but they can hear your vote,” he reminded them.
