As the US presidential election approaches, polls indicate a tight race between former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris. The two candidates recently faced off in a presidential debate, where they outlined their policies and exchanged sharp criticisms.
Since the debate, Trump has refused to participate in any further debates, declining invitations from both CNN and Fox News. In contrast, Harris accepted the CNN invitation and has now also agreed to appear on Fox News for a sit-down interview.
Fox News announced on Monday that Harris will be interviewed by the channel’s chief political anchor, Bret Baier, on Wednesday, October 16. Known for its conservative viewership, Fox News is expected to ask Harris tough questions, as Democrats aim to reach undecided voters by increasing their presence on the network.
Trump, once a frequent guest on Fox News, criticised the network on Truth Social, saying that “Fox News has grown weak and soft on Democrats”.
He also attacked Harris, referring to her as “Lyin’ Kamala” and accused her of avoiding debates and tough interviews.
“Lyin’ Kamala, after having turned down the Fox News Debate on September 4, which I accepted, is now saying she wants to Debate, despite the fact that the Votes are already being cast. The reason she wants it now is simple, she is losing in the Polls, and is desperate – Will do anything!” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
“The problem is that Kamala can’t even do a simple Interview, and needs the Fake News Broadcasters, like CBS, to completely withdraw her answer on 60 Minutes, which was INCOHERENT, and illegally insert a completely different one in order to make her look modestly “intelligent.” IT DIDN’T HELP, AND 60 MINUTES WILL BE PAYING A HEAVY PRICE FOR A LONG TIME TO COME,” post added.
Trump’s posts also took aim at Harris’s previous appearances, including an interview on CBS’s 60 Minutes, where he claimed her responses were edited to appear more coherent.
Harris has been on a media blitz, appearing on various platforms, including podcasts and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
However, she has faced criticism for avoiding challenging interviews until now, with her scheduled debut on Fox News.
Her decision to engage with Fox News comes amid growing pressure for transparency.
Time magazine owner Marc Benioff recently aired frustrations on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Why isn’t the Vice President engaging with the public on the same level?”
This will be Harris’s first in-depth interview with Fox News, a channel that boasts significant viewership, particularly in key swing states.
According to Nielsen Media Research, Fox News consistently ranks higher than CNN and MSNBC in these regions, with viewership spikes when Democrats appear on the network.
