The police have released body camera footage revealing the exact moment when Ryan Wesley Routh, the 58-year-old man who allegedly attempted to kill former US President Donald Trump in Florida was arrested. This was the second apparent attempt on Trump’s life in two months.

The footage shows a calm and nonchalant Routh, wearing sunglasses and a light pink t-shirt, walking backwards with his hands over his head before being handcuffed and led away by law enforcement officers.

“Take two steps to your right. Go straight back, keep walking,” an officer can be heard saying as others ran to handcuff him.

Routh was arrested about 45 minutes after he was spotted by Secret Service agents at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach.

The gunman hid for nearly 12 hours in the bushes at the club before Trump made an unscheduled decision to play a game of golf. However, Secret Service agents spotted the muzzle of Routh’s rifle and fired at him, following which he fled the spot.

The gunman was around 300 yards away from Trump when he was spotted. Routh was arrested following a 45-minute chase by security officials after a witness shared a photo of the suspect’s vehicle with the authorities.

Routh was the only person found in the vehicle, which had a stolen licence plate, authorities said.

A loaded assault-style rifle, a digital camera and a bag of food were found at the location where Routh was hiding. The gunman, a Hawaii resident with a criminal history, was charged with two firearm offences.

While Routh’s motive for allegedly planning to target Trump is not known yet, the gunman had said in the past on social media that he voted for the Republican in 2016. However, he turned into a Trump critic and expressed disappointment with the former President in a number of posts.
