Kamala Harris trolled for ‘fake accent’ at Labour Day rally, compared to Looney Tunes character

US Vice President and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris is trolling for adopting a new accent while addressing a crowd at a Labour Day rally in Detroit, Michigan. Harris, who is trying to connect teachers union members in the battleground state of Michigan, appeared to change her tone of voice during more animated moments and while engaging with supporters in the crowd at a Detroit high school.

“You better thank a union member for the five-day work week. You better thank a union member for sick leave. You better thank a union member for paid leave. You better thank a union member for vacation time.” This is when her accent became more noticeable.

Harris was accused of using a “fake” accent, with some comparing it to Foghorn Leghorn, a Looney Tunes character.

The Trump campaign pointed out that Harris used a similar line hours later in a speech to union workers in Pittsburgh, but without the noticeable accent.

This isn’t the first time Harris has been criticised for using a “fake” accent.

In July, she was accused of using a fake Southern accent during a rally in Atlanta, and in 2021, she was slammed for using a “French accent” while touring a Covid-19 lab in France.

Harris, an Indian-American politician, was born in Oakland, California, and grew up in the Bay Area. She has no apparent Southern roots as Harris’s mother is Indian, and her father is Jamaican.

A small village in Thulasenthirapuram in Tamil Nadu is known as the ancestral home of US Vice-President Kamala Harris’s maternal grandparents.

MAGA SUPPORTERS TROLLED HARRIS

Make America Great Again (MAGA) supporters were quick to troll Harris.

“This is her seventh new accent in four weeks. She has literally never used this accent before. She grew up in Canada. Phoniest politician in all of politics,” Stephen Miller, a senior advisor to former President Trump wrote on X.

Other critics included comedian and podcast host Chad Prather, who posted, “This is SO CRINGE! Kamala Harris has again brought out her FAKE accent… this time in Detroit, Michigan! NO ONE IS BUYING IT!”

“Kamala Harris speaking in Detroit earlier today vs Pittsburgh a few hours later. Same speech. Two entirely different accents. She’s the fakest human being that has ever lived,” former Daily Collar journalist and conservative commentator Greg Price posted.

“All of politics is a performance to Kamala Harris. She changes fake accents like she changes policy positions and political personas. Today she’s talking in a fake southern accent, pretending to be a moderate. Next week she’ll be back to San Francisco liberal,” GOP strategist Matt Whitlock also wrote on X.
