Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, at a packed election rally in Wisconsin, bizarrely claimed that the reason people have stopped consuming bacon is due to the wind energy the country has invested in.
His statement was in response to a question by a rally attendee who asked what the former president’s plans were to usher in a more affordable life for people and bring down inflation.
“It’s probably the question I get most. You take a look at bacon and some of these products, and some people don’t eat bacon any more,” Trump said. “We are going to get the energy prices down – you know this was caused by their horrible energy. Wind. They want wind all over the place, but when it doesn’t blow we have a little problem”.
Trump went further to quote incorrect food inflation numbers.
“Food has gone up at levels that nobody’s ever seen before,” he announced. “We’ve never seen anything like it – 50, 60, 70 percent.”
This contradicts the figures provided by US agencies. According to Trading Economics, data from the US Bureau of Labour Statistics shows that current food prices are only slightly higher than they were in January 2020, at the end of the Trump administration.
According to the latest polls, Trump has trailed his opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris. He is looking to regain the momentum he had right after the failed assassination attempt on him during his Pennsylvania rally on July 13.
