At least three people were killed and several others were injured in Germany’s Solingen on Friday after an unidentified attacker went on a stabbing rampage at a local festival.
According to news agency Reuters, the attack was reported on Friday night at a festival marking 650 years of Solingen. After the incident, the attacker fled the scene.
The police advised the people to leave the area and also launched a manhunt to arrest the attacker.
However, cops refused to comment on the severity of the injuries.
Solingen has a population of 160,000 people and is located near two bigger German cities– Cologne and Duesseldorf.
Earlier in May this year, several people, including a police officer, were also injured in Germany’s Mannheim after an unidentified attacker also launched a similar knife attack at a right-wing demonstration.
The attack happened when an elderly man was preparing to address the far-right protest that was called by anti-Islam activist Michael Stuerzenberger.
Stuerzenberger, who describes himself as an Islam-critical journalist, has been a member of several far-right anti-Islam organisations, including the PEGIDA movement that holds regular marches in cities, especially in Eastern Germany.
