US Vice President Kamala Harris has officially filed her nomination for the presidential polls scheduled in November this year.

In a post on the microblogging site X, she shared a picture of her signing the documents and said, “Today, I signed the forms officially declaring my candidacy for President of the United States. I will work hard to earn every vote. And in November, our people-powered campaign will win.”

Her candidature came hours after former US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama endorsed Harris as the Democratic presidential nominee.

In a post on X, Barack Obama said that he and his wife think that their “friend” Harris would make a “fantastic President of the United States”.

“Earlier this week, Michelle and I called our friend Kamala Harris. We told her we think she’ll make a fantastic President of the United States, and that she has our full support. At this critical moment for our country, we’re going to do everything we can to make sure she wins in November. We hope you’ll join us,” Barack Obama posted on X with a clip capturing a phone call with Harris.

Harris, 59, launched her presidential campaign last week hours after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race for a second term. However, she is yet to be officially declared the presidential candidate by the Democrats.

If elected on November 5 to succeed President Biden, Harris– the daughter of a Jamaican father and an Indian mother– would not only be the first woman, but the first Indian-American, the first Asian, the first Black woman and the first person of Jamaican descent to ascend to the office.
