Coup against Biden by Democrats, says Trump, Republicans

The Republicans are alleging that top Democrats have staged a coup against US President Joe Biden and that he was removed from the 2024 US presidential race at a time when he is out of the public eye due to Covid. Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, his running mate JD Vance and several Republican Congressmen have alleged that.

Biden in a post on X, declared that he would not run for the Oval Office and endorsed Vice-President Kamala Harris as the presidential candidate.

House Speaker Mike Johnson claimed that Biden had been forced out in what amounted to a coup. “The Democrat Party forced the Democrat nominee off the ballot, just over 100 days before the election,” he said in a post on X.

Johnson claimed Biden was already the official Democratic nominee, while it wasn’t so. Biden running as the Democratic nominee was to be finalised at the Democratic National Convention. That’s scheduled for August 19.

Among the veteran Democrats named by the Republicans behind the “coup” are Nancy Pelosi and Barack Obama.

Nancy Pelosi endorsed Kamala Harris as the Democratic presidential nominee on Monday.

“Joe Biden succumbed to a coup by Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama, and Hollywood donors, ignoring millions of Democratic primary votes,” Senator Tom Cotton from Arkansas wrote on X.

Asked by Fox News host Jesse Watters if Biden’s dropping out of the election was a “coup against Joe Biden”, Trump quietly replied with “sort of”, before Vance chipped in, according to a New York Post report.

“If they want to take him down because he’s mentally incapable of serving, invoke the 25th Amendment,” said Vance, referring to the 25th Amendment of the US Constitution that deals with issues related to presidential succession and disability.

“You don’t get to sort of do this in the most politically beneficial way for Democrats. If it’s an actual problem, they should take care of it the appropriate way,” Vance added.

Vance has been saying that if Biden wasn’t capable of running for re-election, then he wasn’t fit to continue as President.

“The coup is complete,” Paul Gosar, Republican Representative from Arizona wrote on X.

DIVERSE REACTIONS TO COUP ALLEGATIONS

US Congressman Dean Phillips from Minnesota countered, “What certain Republicans call a coup, replacing a nominee with another, we know is democracy. What we know was a coup, attacking the Capitol to stop the counting of ballots, certain Republicans call democracy.”

Independent journalist and former Fox News producer Kyle Becker posted, “JUST IN: Biden ‘coup’ plotter Nancy Pelosi is throwing her public support behind Kamala. Harris appears to be the elites’ selection. How are you enjoying your ‘democracy,’ Democrats?”

Tom Fitton, President of Judicial Watch, expressed his concerns on social media, “Corrupt ‘coup’ against ‘democracy’ by Democratic Party! Meanwhile the national security crisis continues as President Biden remains infirm and unable to perform the duties and responsibilities of the Commander-in-Chief.”

RNC Research also weighed in, “Kamala Harris is all smiles in her first public appearance after her party’s coup to force Biden off the ticket. What did Kamala know about Biden’s decline and when did she know it? COVERUP OF THE CENTURY!”
