Pakistan consulate attack in Germany: Afghan nationals attack Islamabad consulate, pulls down flag

A group of people attacked the Pakistani consulate in Germany’s Frankfurt by throwing stones and pulling down the country’s flag, triggering a strong condemnation from Islamabad over the incident.

Videos on social media show a handful of protesters, with Afghanistan flags wrapped around their shoulders, entering the Pakistani consulate, throwing stones at the building and vandalising the premises.

Later, they even took down a Pakistani flag placed outside the building and replaced it with the flag of Afghanistan. Several Pakistani media reports also claimed that the protesters also tried burning the Pakistani flag.

Reacting to the incident, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry asked Germany to take action against the “gang of extremists” which attacked its consulate, endangering the lives of its staff deployed at the building.

In an official statement, Pakistan called on the Germany’s lack of ability to protect the consulate while reminding the country about its responsibility to protect the diplomatic premises under the Vienna Convention.

“Pakistan strongly condemns yesterday’s attack by a gang of extremists on its consulate in Frankfurt, Germany and the failure of the Germany authorities to protect the sanctity and security of the premises of its consular Mission,” the statement said.

“We are conveying our strong protest to the German government and urge them to take immediate measures to fulfil its responsibilities under the Vienna Conventions,” it added.

The statement also urges German authorities to take immediate measures to arrest and prosecute those involved in the attack. It also urged Germany to hold to account those responsible for the lapses in security.
