Pakistan on Friday referred to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a “terrorist”, and demanded he be brought to justice for alleged war crimes against Palestinians.
The statement by Rana Sanaullah, adviser to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on political and public affairs, was part of a deal with a religious political party, Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), to end its days-long sit-in on a key road outside Islamabad.
The rally and sit-in concluded late on Friday after the deal was announced.
The accord requires authorities to provide further humanitarian assistance to Palestinians and ban all products from companies supporting Israel.
“Netanyahu is a terrorist and a perpetrator of war crimes,” Sanaullah said, adding, “A committee has also been constituted to identify such companies and products in Pakistan that may be directly or indirectly abetting Israel or forces committing war crimes against Palestinians.”
Thousands of TLP supporters rallied near Islamabad last Saturday to condemn Israeli strikes in Gaza.
They demanded the government declare Netanyahu a terrorist, boycott Israeli products and send aid to Palestinians.
After the rally, many continued a sit-in at a busy interchange that connects Islamabad to the neighbouring garrison city of Rawalpindi, causing severe disruption for commuters.
