The widow of Corey Comperatore, the rallygoer killed during the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, revealed that she has not received a condolence call from Trump, but she did decline a call from Joe Biden.

Corey Comperatore, a 50-year-old volunteer firefighter and father of two, died shielding his family during the shooting at Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

His wife, Helen Comperatore, told the New York Post that her husband would not have wanted her to engage in a conversation with Biden, a Democrat.

“I didn’t talk to Biden,” Helen Comperatore said. “I didn’t want to talk to him. My husband was a devout Republican and he would not have wanted me to talk to him.”

She described her husband as her “hero” and recounted that his last words to them were “get down!” as he threw himself in the path of the bullet to protect his wife and children.

Helen said that she holds no animosity towards Biden, stating that her grievance lies with the actions of the 20-year-old gunman, Thomas Matthew Crooks, who was killed by Secret Service agents at the scene.

She also mentioned that she is not heavily involved in politics but supports Trump, who has yet to reach out to the bereaved family.

“I don’t have any ill will towards Joe Biden. I’m not one of those people that gets involved in politics,” she said. “I support Trump. That’s who I’m voting for, but I don’t have ill will towards Biden. He didn’t do anything bad to my husband. A 20-year-old despicable kid did.”

In the aftermath of the shooting, Trump wrote on Truth Social, “I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania. Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured.”

The Republican presidential candidate also extended condolences to the families of the victims, stating he will “hold in our hearts the memory of the citizen who was so horribly killed.”

A GoFundMe page, authorised by Trump, has been set up to support the victims’ families and has raised over $4.6 million as of Tuesday.
