JD Vance is Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s pick to run for the vice-president’s post. Vance and his wife Usha Chilukuri Vance, a practising Hindu, have at least two Vivek in their lives — one their son, and the other the entrepreneur-politician Vivek Ramaswamy. Usha is a family friend, revealed Vivek Ramaswamy, who once ran to be the Republican presidential nominee himself.
Ramaswamy had made a mark during the Republican debates, and many believed Trump might pick him as his running mate. After Trump chose Vance as his running mate, Ramaswamy congratulated his friends: Vance and Usha.
Vance is the Senator from Ohio, and he has three children with Usha — Ewan, Mirabel and one is even named Vivek.
Vance and Usha had their first child in 2017, but they kept their children out of the limelight. Their second child, Vivek, was born in 2020 and Vance celebrated his fourth birthday on the Senate floor in February 2024.
In February 2021, their third child, Mirabel, was born, and the couple shared this news on Instagram, sharing a photo with her.
Now, Vance is set to be the Vice-President and his friend Ramaswamy could not be happier.
“I believe Trump-Vance will be the most formidable presidential ticket of my lifetime,” Ramaswamy tweeted after Vance was confirmed as the Vice Presidential candidate.
Ramaswamy has not just congratulated Vance but also discussed why he is the best person to be Trump’s Vice-President. He also revealed how they know each other rather closely.
“JD [Vance] was born in humble circumstances, he has lived the American dream as well. His wife, Usha, is a friend of our family. She was also a law school classmate,” Ramaswamy told NBC News.
He also discussed how Vance had the ability to get fence-sitters to vote for the Republican Party.
“I think she could be a big attribute in reaching non-traditional voters and, even further, for JD himself is someone who has a unique vantage point for bringing in new voters. He was not someone who was a Donald Trump evangelist in 2016. In a very personal and authentic way, he can reach many other people who were not part of the camp. He can tell them, here’s why I moved, here’s why I want you to come with us too,” Ramaswamy added.
Usha, Vance’s wife, was central to his Ohio win and in him realising his faith.
In an earlier interview, he had discussed how she helped him find his Christian faith as she was always rooted in her Hindu upbringing and realised the importance of faith.
She will help him attract Indian-origin voters as she did for the Ohio seat. Indian, traditionally, have been Democratic Party voters.
Ramaswamy is also there to support Vance as he reminisces about their law school days.
“So proud of my friend, classmate, and fellow southwest Ohioan today. We used to watch Bengals games at the bar in law school. It’s awesome we’re now here is a decade later with JD joining the strongest presidential ticket in our lifetime. He’ll be an outstanding Vice President and I look forward to everything ahead for him and for our country,” Ramaswamy posted on X.
