US Vice-President Kamala Harris, an Indian-American politician, called Senator JD Vance of Ohio to congratulate him on his selection as Donald Trump’s running mate. She also expressed hope that Vance would participate in a CBS News debate against her, according to two Biden campaign aides familiar with the conversation.
“Vice-President Harris reached out to Senator Vance and left a message to congratulate him on his selection, welcome him to the race, and express her hope that the two can meet in the vice-presidential debate proposed by CBS News,” a Biden campaign official told Fox News.
A vice-presidential debate could take place on July 23 or August 13.
In May, Trump agreed to a vice-presidential debate for his future running mate to be hosted on Fox News. However, the Biden campaign is only willing to participate in a debate on CBS, reported Fox News.
According to one of the Biden aides, CBS has proposed holding the first vice-presidential debate on August 13 in Washington, DC, with the Biden campaign already accepting CBS News’ invitation in May, reported the New York Times.
“Vice-President Kamala Harris is prepared to debate JD Vance,” TJ Ducklo, a Biden campaign spokesperson, was quoted as saying by the New York Times.
However, no vice-presidential debate has been confirmed yet, but if Vance and Harris do face off, it could be a tough situation for the Vice President, according to Fox News.
DONALD TRUMP PICKS JD VANCE AS HIS RUNNING MATE
Former US President Donald Trump has chosen JD Vance, a Republican senator from Ohio, as his vice-presidential nominee, two days after Trump narrowly survived an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania. The announcement was made on Monday.
Vance, 39, was a fierce Trump critic in 2016 but has since become one of his loyal supporters.
Trump announced his running mate’s name on his Truth Social media platform at the start of the four-day Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, where the party’s presidential ticket will be nominated.
US Senator JD Vance, tapped by Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump as his running mate, credited his wife and her Hindu faith for helping him navigate personal and professional challenges and come to terms with his own Catholic faith.
President Biden, 81, and former President Trump, 78, agreed to two presidential debates. The first took place on CNN on June 27, and the second will be hosted by ABC on September 10.
