A war of words broke out between US President Joe Biden and his Republican rival Donald Trump after the former accidentally referred to Vice President Kamala Harris as ‘Vice President Trump’ in his latest gaffe.

Former President Trump mocked Biden for the faux pas during his press conference at a Nato event, calling him “Crooked Joe” and “Big Boy’.

“Crooked Joe begins his ‘Big Boy’ Press Conference with, ‘I wouldn’t have picked Vice President Trump to be vice president, though I think she was not qualified to be president.’ Great job, Joe!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

Biden, facing mounting criticism over his age and mental fitness to serve a second term in office following last month’s feeble performance at the presidential debate with Trump, hit back and asserted that “he knew the difference”.

“By the way: Yes, I know the difference. One’s a prosecutor, and the other’s a felon,” Biden tweeted, referring to Trump’s conviction in a hush money case involving porn star Stormy Daniels.

BIDEN’S LATEST GAFFES

Earlier on Thursday (local time), Biden, at the same press conference, mistakenly referred to his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelenskyy as ‘President Putin’.

Biden, joined by 32 allies and foreign leaders for the announcement of the “Ukraine Compact,” a new initiative to bolster aid to Ukraine in its ongoing war with Russia, was inviting Zelenskyy to speak when he made the verbal faux pas.

“I want to hand it over to the President of Ukraine, who has as much courage as he has determination. Please welcome President Putin,” Biden said.

The 81-year-old Democrat initially began to walk offstage before realising his error and returning to correct himself. “Zelenskyy is going to beat President Putin,” he added.

Zelenskyy appeared to take the mistake in stride, responding with a lighthearted comment. “I’m better,” he said.

The latest verbal slip-ups came as a growing number of Democrats have called on Biden to withdraw himself from the re-election campaign. Even actor George Clooney, one of the major fundraisers for Democrats, also demanded the President to quit the White House race.

Biden has repeatedly refused to end his re-election bid and asserted that he is the best person to defeat Trump again in the November 5 election.
