An FIR has been registered in Delhi against a Pakistani national working as a cook at the residence of the Chargé d’affaires at the Pakistan High Commission for allegedly attempting to molest a domestic worker.

The victim was hired as a domestic help at the residence of Pakistan’s Chargé d’affaires Saad Ahmad Waraich. The woman was living in the servant quarters of the diplomat’s official residence at Tilak Marg, New Delhi.

Minhaj Hussain, 54, had been allegedly misbehaving with her since his arrival in India in February, demanding sexual favours and making obscene advances.

After an attempted molestation, the woman reported the incident to Saad Ahmad, who quietly sent Hussain back to Pakistan under the pretext of Bakri Eid festivities.

The Pakistani High Commission then instructed the woman to leave her job and residence by June 30. Distressed by the treatment and Hussain’s return to Waraich’s house, the woman filed a police complaint at Tilak Marg Police Station on June 28.

The Delhi Police registered an FIR under IPC Section 354 (assault or criminal force on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty) against Hussain.

Sensing trouble, Hussain was sent back to Pakistan on June 30 by the embassy.
