Biden ‘absolutely not’ withdrawing from presidential race: White House

US President Joe Biden vowed to stay in the 2024 presidential race during a call with campaign staff on Wednesday, amid reports that he was reconsidering running for the top post.

According to a report in The New York Times, Biden had told a key ally that he knows he may not be able to salvage his candidacy if his next few public appearances do not go well. However, the ally emphasised that Biden is still deeply in the fight for re-election, the report stated.

Now, according to a report in news agency Reuters, Biden called members of his campaign team and told them that he wasn’t “going anywhere”.

“I am running,” Biden said, adding he remained the Democratic Party leader and wasn’t being pushed out, according to the report.

Asked Wednesday if Biden was considering stepping down, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was quoted as saying: “Absolutely not.”
