An intense explosion at a lithium battery factory in South Korea resulted in a devastating fire on Monday, claiming the lives of 22 workers.
They were predominantly Chinese nationals, according to local fire officials.
The blaze, now mostly under control, swept through a facility operated by battery manufacturer Aricell in Hwaseong, a significant industrial hub located about 90 minutes southwest of Seoul.
Of the deceased, 18 were Chinese workers, one was Laotian, and the nationality of one other victim has yet to be confirmed, said Kim Jin-young, a local fire official, citing information from company sources.
