Two people were killed and several were wounded when a gunman opened fire at a park in Round Rock, Texas on Saturday evening (local time), police said.

CNN reported that at least six people, including two children, were injured in the shooting that took place at the park during a Juneteenth festival. All of them had “potentially serious injuries”, the report said citing emergency response officials.

The shooting occurred around 11 PM at Old Settlers Park following a fight between two groups, said Round Rock Police Chief Allen Banks. He added that a gunman opened fire, striking multiple people.

Two individuals died at the scene, Banks confirmed. Four adults and two children were transported to local trauma centres for treatment, the Austin-Travis County EMS told ABC News.

“We don’t have a suspect in custody at this time,” said Rick White of the Round Rock Police Department. “A search for the suspects is ongoing.”

The Juneteenth Festival, organised by a local nonprofit and the city government, featured a free concert with various performers scheduled for Saturday evening.

Juneteenth, also known as Juneteenth National Independence Day, is a federal holiday in the United States celebrated on June 19 every year. It commemorates the end of slavery in the country.
