Former US President Donald Trump’s fundraising page crashed briefly after a New York jury found him guilty of falsifying documents to cover up a payment to silence porn star Stormy Daniels about their alleged sexual encounters. Despite the site crashing due to a surge in traffic, one of Trump’s campaign committees managed to raise $800,000 (approx Rs 6.66 crore).
As Trump’s supporters rushed to make donations for the former president after the judgment, the fundraising website crashed and visitors were redirected to WinRed, the Republican Party’s official fundraising site. However, that site was also down as it was under maintenance.
The campaign site was briefly redirected to a different donation processor amid the technical glitch, a New York Post report said. The campaign site was restored in about half an hour.
Trump’s advisor Chris LaCivita cited the technical glitch at WinRed, as “millions of American Patriots were wanting to donate to Trump’s campaign”.
“So many Americans were moved to donate to President Trump’s campaign that the WinRed pages went down,” Trump’s campaign tweeted after the former US president was convicted on 34 felony counts by a New York jury.
