A female Pakistani journalist was allegedly manhandled by a group of men involved in cheating at an examination centre during the ongoing matric exams. Three people, including the owner of the school, have been arrested by authorities, ARY News reported.
The incident came to light when a video of the assault went viral on social media. The footage shows the group physically attacking the journalist at a school in Korangi town in Karachi.
Reacting to the incident, Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar and Minister for Universities and Boards Muhammad Ali Malkani have sought detailed reports from the relevant officials.
The Home Minister has directed Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Korangi to submit a detailed report on the incident at the earliest.
The recent incident highlights the severe irregularities plaguing the matriculation exams in Karachi. Students have reported a lack of basic amenities such as furniture and widespread open cheating. Moreover, examination papers were leaked before the scheduled start time.
Power outages have also disrupted several examination centers under the Board of Secondary Education Karachi (BSEK), affecting students in classes 9 and 10.
Various parts of Karachi, including Government Girls Secondary Campus School in Jacob Line, have reported significant issues with the electrical system. Despite the hot weather, these problems have persisted for days, forcing students to complete their exams in uncomfortable conditions.
