A 22-year-old MTech student, Navjeet Sandhu, from Haryana’s Karnal was stabbed to death in Australia during a fight among some Indian students. The police in Australia are searching for two Indian-origin brothers, also said to be from Karnal, in connection with Sandhu’s murder.

Sandhu was attacked with a knife by another student when he tried to intervene in a fight among Indian students over some rent issue, according to his uncle Yashvir, a resident of Karnal.

“Navjeet’s friend (another Indian student) had asked him to accompany him to his house to pick up his belongings as he had a car. While his friend went inside, Navjeet heard some shouts and saw there was a scuffle. When Navjeet tried to intervene asking them not to fight, he was fatally stabbed in the chest with a knife,” said Yashvir, who’ll retire from the Army in July, reported news agency PTI.

Both Navjeet and the alleged attacker hailed from Karnal, Haryana.

The family of the deceased got information of the incident early Sunday morning.

The 22-year-old boy who got stabbed in Australia went on a student visa one and a half years ago. His uncle Yashvir said the father had sold one-and-half acres of their land to fund his education.

Victoria Police said that their Homicide Squad detectives are sharing information and pictures of two men they’re looking for after a stabbing in Ormond, in Melbourne’s southeast.

The individuals, identified as brothers Abhijeet and Robin Gartan, are of Indian-origin.

Abhijeet, 26, and Robin, 27, were last spotted in the Ormond area in the early hours of Sunday shortly after the incident.

The suspects are believed to be travelling in a stolen 2014 white Toyota Camry sedan, reported PTI.

The family is urging the Indian government to assist in repatriating Navjeet’s body to India.

Emergency services responded to a residential property around 1 am on Sunday after reports of a dispute.

Upon arrival, they found two men with stab wounds.

Victoria Police didn’t name the victims but revealed two other men fled the scene.

Police are appealing to the public for information on the whereabouts of the two suspects. While investigators have not yet determined the exact cause of the dispute, they believe the parties involved were previously acquainted.
