A 53-year-old passenger has been fined by a court in Australia for urinating in a cup while under the influence of alcohol on an Air New Zealand flight from Auckland to Sydney.

The accused also spilled the urine on a flight attendant as he left the aircraft.

According to a report by New Zealand-based Stuff, the incident happened in December last year and came to the fore when a fellow passenger, sitting in the same row, reported the behaviour to the crew onboard.

The accused passenger has been charged 600 Australian dollars (approximately Rs 33,000) for his behaviour.

Recalling the incident, the complainant said that she and her 15-year-old daughter were sitting in the aisle and middle seats, respectively, when the accused man, sitting in the window seat, started urinating in a cup. The incident happened after the flight landed at Sydney Airport.

The complainant further said that when the plane was waiting at the tarmac for the terminal gate, she heard the “unmistakable sound of the passenger urinating in a cup”, Stuff reported.

She said the man was “drunk” and also spilled urine on a flight attendant as he left the plane, the Stuff report added.

Speaking on the issue, the Australian Federal Police, in a statement, said that the accused passenger was deboarded from the aircraft because he had “urinated in a cup while in his seat”.

Meanwhile, Air New Zealand said it does not comment on individual incidents, while adding that it bans between five and 10 customers each month for disruptive behaviour, including intoxication, Stuff reported.
