A 50-year-old man from Punjab, India, has been charged with second-degree murder after his wife was found stabbed inside their home in Canada’s Abbotsford last Friday night, CTV News reported.

Police identified the victim as 41-year-old Balwinder Kaur. Jagpreet Singh, Kaur’s husband, was arrested at the scene on Saturday.

According to a statement from the Abbotsford Police Department, officers responded to reports of an assault in progress on Wagner Drive at around 10:50 PM on March 15.

Upon arrival, they found Kaur inside the residence suffering from life-threatening stab wounds. Despite first responders’ efforts, she died shortly after being transported to the hospital.

Police have not released any information regarding a possible motive for the killing. However, they confirmed that Singh was known to the victim.

“This was an isolated incident,” said Sergeant Timothy Pierotti in a statement. “The investigation is ongoing, and we are committed to supporting the community affected by this tragedy.”
