Joe Biden roasts ‘too old’ Donald Trump, says he’s ‘mentally unfit’ for president

US President Joe Biden on Saturday (local time) took a jibe at his Republican challenger Donald Trump over his physical fitness and age and said he was “too old and mentally unfit” to become the president.

Trump, 77, has often ridiculed 81-year-old Biden for his age and his mental fitness, a concern among the voters as the world’s largest democracy votes in a re-match between the two leaders on November 5.

During a speech at the Gridiron Club dinner, a Washington tradition that began in the 1880s, Biden said, “One candidate is too old and mentally unfit to be president. The other one is me,” Biden was quoted as saying by news agency Reuters.

Biden made the comments in front of over 650 guests who attended the dinner, including Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar, Amazon founder and Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos, and TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew.

Biden, who recently clinched the Democratic Party’s nomination for this year’s presidential election, has repeatedly allayed concerns that he was too old for a second White House run.

Trump’s campaign did not respond to Biden’s remarks at the time of writing this story.

In the past, Trump has mocked Biden over incidents ranging from mispronunciation of words, gaffes and falling on the stage or steps while losing balance.
