An inmate fled Louisiana jail custody while he was being transported back to the prison from a hospital. According to a report with NBC News, the man pepper-sprayed his transporting deputy and stole her vehicle.
The accused, identified as Leon Ruffin, was taken to a local hospital at noon after he suffered a possible seizure.
He was discharged the same day and fled the custody of officers while on his way back to the jail.
The accused “created some type of disturbance”, the report stated, adding, that the officer got out of the car and opened the door to check on Ruffin when he pepper-sprayed her.
Moments later, the accused fled with the vehicle. He had been imprisoned for life for second-degree murder.
The police were on the lookout for the accused.
