The communication network of an Israeli aircraft from Phuket in Thailand to Ben-Gurion Airport in Israel came under attack by ‘hostile elements,’ Israeli media reported on Sunday. The attackers attempted to take over the communication and signaling system of the El Al plane and divert it from its destination.
However, the plane reached its destination safely, The Jerusalem Post reported, citing Israeli radio service KAN Reshet Bet, which stated that “hostile elements” were behind the attack. The Israeli officials have not confirmed the incident so far.
According to reports, the incident took place over an area where the Iran-backed Houthis are active.
This is the second time such an incident has occurred in the past week.
The attackers gave misleading instructions to the crew that were different from their set route. The staff noticed the suspicious directions and identified the bid to take over the communication system.
However, the crew did not follow the misleading instructions and safely landed the flight at Israel’s Ben-Gurion Airport.
A similar incident of attempting to take over the communication system of an Israeli plane also took place during a recent flight to Bangkok, sources told Israeli media.
However, the airline said “the disruptions are not aimed at [El Al] planes and it is not a security incident — the disruption did not affect the continuation of the flight.”
