Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called Hamas terrorists the ‘new Nazis’, as he slammed the International Court of Justice’s decision giving nod to South Africa’s genocide claim against Israel.
Speaking on the International Holocaust Remembrance Day (anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz), Netanyahu also brandished an Arabic-language copy of Adolf Hitler’s Mein Kampf.
“New Nazis now get help from South Africa,” Netanyahu said.
“The very willingness in The Hague to discuss this ridiculous claim,” Netanyahu told a press conference in Tel Avi, referring to the court’s decision.
“The very fact that it was not dismissed… proves that many in the world have learned nothing from the Holocaust,” the Israeli Prime Minister said.
On Friday, the World Court ordered Israel to take action to prevent acts of genocide, but it stopped short of calling for an immediate ceasefire.
Ruling on a case brought by South Africa, the court said Israel must ensure its forces did not commit genocide and take measures to improve the humanitarian situation for Palestinian civilians in the enclave.
In the ruling, 15 of the 17 judges on the International Court of Justice (ICJ) panel voted for emergency measures that covered most of what South Africa asked for, with the notable exception of ordering a halt to Israeli military action in Gaza.
Israel’s military operation has laid waste too much of the densely populated enclave and killed more than 25,000 Palestinians in nearly four months, according to Gaza health authorities.
