Syria civil war: Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Viktorovich Lavrov claims Assad fled Syria

The Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Viktorovich Lavrov confirmed on Sunday that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad had left the country after ordering a peaceful transfer of power.

Rebel forces seized control of Damascus in a swift offensive on Sunday, ending over five decades of the Assad family’s authoritarian rule.

In a statement broadcast on state television, Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) commander Golani declared, “The future is ours… There is no turning back, we are committed to continuing the path we began in 2011.”
