The Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Western Theatre Command Special Forces Commandos will take part in a joint exercise ‘Warrior-VIII’ with Pakistan.
The 20-day-long joint anti-terrorism exercise in Pakistan was announced by the Chinese Defence Ministry on Tuesday, and will be held from November 20 to December 11.
According to the Chinese Defence Ministry, the exercise follows an annual schedule and reflects agreements reached by the militaries of both nations.
The theme of the exercise is “a joint anti-terrorism elimination and strike operation,” and the drill will feature joint mixed training across various levels and specialities.
Activities would include joint planning and live-force exercises, designed to simulate real-world combat scenarios where Pakistan SSG and PLA Special Forces will be involved.
The Warrior exercise began in 2013. There was a long gap after 2019 due to the pandemic and the postponement of the scheduled exercise in December 2023. The primary objective is to enhance practical exchanges and deepen cooperation between the two-armed forces.
China has raised concerns over the recent attacks on its workers deployed in China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects in Pakistan. China has also proposed the deployment of its own security personnel in Pakistan to ensure the safety of its over 30,000 nationals who are a part of various CPEC projects in China.
