Indian-origin actor Poorna Jagannathan, who is known for films like ‘Delhi Belly’ and ‘Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani’, as well as the Netflix series ‘Never Have I Ever’, endorsed US Vice President and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris just a day ahead of the presidential elections.
In an exclusive interview with India Today, the 51-year-old actor said, “I think there’s a big divide now between Indian-American women and Indian-American men. But not so. We tend to vote Democratic, but for Indian-Americans in general, you have to remember where we came from and who we are and what our issues are.”
“We may be perceived as the minority or the immigrants who are not threatened, you know, when Trump sends Diwali messages and all that, let’s not be fooled. What happens to one immigrant group will affect us as well. It’s what we saw after 9/11 where, you know, there was such Islamophobia, and it bled over to our Sikh brothers and sisters. The horrors of what’s happening in one immigrant group are, we are not exclusive to it,” she added.
