Israel was conducting “precise strikes” on Iran’s military targets in retaliation to “months of continuous attacks from the regime in Iran” on the Jewish nation, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said early on Saturday.
Loud explosions were heard in Iran on Saturday, local media reports said, claiming it to be the possible start of a retaliation by Israel to a ballistic-missile offensive carried out by Iran on October 1, news agency Reuters reported.
Iran’s state TV said explosions were heard around Tehran and its nearby city of Karaj. However, there was no clarity over the origin of the explosions.
“In response to months of continuous attacks from the regime in Iran against the State of Israel—right now the Israel Defense Forces is conducting precise strikes on military targets in Iran”, the IDF said in a post on X on Saturday.
The IDF went on to add that the regime in Iran and its proxies in the region have been “relentlessly attacking Israel since October 7” on seven fronts, including direct attacks from Iranian soil.
